Ben Ward's Blog
Say hello to Hogrocket!

Ok, so after yesterday’s blog post it’s time for me to put my money where my mouth is! I’m incredibly pleased to announce that I have formed my own video games studio, named Hogrocket. There are three of us right now: Peter Collier, Stephen Cakebread and myself.

All three of us previously worked at Bizarre Creations, a respected console developer in North West England. Pete was a Senior Level Designer at Bizarre, most recently having finished up on James Bond 007: Blood Stone. He’ll be taking a broader role at Hogrocket, working not only on our levels but also game design as a whole. Steve’s reputation will no doubt precede him, as he is the creator of the excellent Geometry Wars series. We’re incredibly lucky to have Steve on the team - he’s a superb programmer but also a talented designer to boot.

We also have a collection of talented freelancers which will be contributing to the games.

It’s extremely exciting to be starting a studio right now, but massively daunting too! Luckily we’ve spent a lot of time making plans and scheduling our time, and we’ve got to the point where we *almost* know what we’re doing! Hopefully they won’t be my famous last words!

Our first project is underway, but we’re keeping quiet as to exactly what it is for a little while longer yet. Don’t get me wrong - we’re keen to share as much as possible publicly though - part of the reason of running an indie studio is to be more open and closer to gamers. We’re currently prototyping a cool idea and it’s looking really nice, but the next stage (now that we’re announced) is to let our friends play the game and take their feedback on board.

My aim is to publish as much of this process as possible. Hopefully we’ll get to the point where you can follow our development pretty effectively.

Anyway, you can see Hogrocket’s website at http://www.hogrocket.com. If you’re interested in hearing more of us in the future then feel free to sign up to our mailing list, or follow us on Twitter: @hogrocket.

Here goes nothing!
